Words Of Comfort And Reassurance
We’ve been scratching our heads for years on this one, because sometimes there are no words to tell people when they’re having a head wobble, or in some cases, something more serious relating to mental health and depression.
The initial thing to do would be to accept what’s happening and what you’re feeling – But please take this with a bucket of salt, because that’s easier said than done. It can take years to master and really understand how much things can change in the blink of an eye – One minute you’re having a great time, and then BANG! Your head starts to spiral and you are left wondering what the hell is happening.
It’s scary, especially the first few times, and without sounding too much like a cliché, it does get easier with time, because you learn to manage it.
Solidarity In Numbers
Brace yourself here – Knowing that millions of other people around the world are in the same position as you, i.e. experiencing mental health symptoms for the first time, probably isn’t going to make you feel any better; Not even 1%.
Sugar coating things at this stage might not work for you, and if it does, that’s brilliant, because there are millions of people around the world who are struggling. If not, sit back, take deep breaths in and out, and try to relax and not panic – This is the part where you’re about to summit Everest, it’s mighty tough, but possible.
Solidarity in numbers is about people coming together, to places like don’t hide, to bask in solidarity, to share personal stories, to talk about their highs and lows, and to tell you what’s worked for them and what hasn’t. Never underestimate the power of sharing, because it can be beneficial to a lot of people. ‘Offloading’ things onto a simple platform like don’t hide, for the rest of the world to see, is hugely powerful – It can save lives.
Hopefully this post has given you an insight into the world of mental health and provided you with a little more hope. It’s going to be a long journey, so stick around for a while longer.
If you didn’t have any fight left in you, you wouldn’t be reading this now, so please, hold onto that burning fire; keep it lit.
There is always light at the end of every tunnel, you just need the right tools to get through the rocks and landslide to see it.
I promise you, it will get better.
