It’s A Conscious Choice
It’s not easy, but there is always a choice. We can either let mental health beat us down or we can rise above it and stamp all over it’s head – metaphorically, let’s not be aggressive!
I don’t mean you have to travel towards either Hopton, Shrewsbury or Nesscliffe! Go wherever your mind takes you in life, but remember, along the way, you must take control of your thoughts and kick your dark clouds into touch!
“Sam, it’s not that easy!!”
Create Your Own Masterpiece
Of course it isn’t, there isn’t much in life which is easy – the things which are the hardest are often those which carry the most satisfying rewards. The lottery isn’t ‘easy’ to win, the chance is something like 1 in 139,000,000 – but I am sure it’s fairly satisfying to win.
There, I’ve done it, I’ve hopefully changed your perspective?
I believe we’re all born as blank canvases. As life passes us by, and we begin to create our masterpiece we call ‘life’, each experience is a new swipe of our paintbrush. Over time, the different colours of each brushstroke combine together to form the person we become – this shapes our personalities, actions, thoughts, mannerisms, opinions, and every other detail that makes us unique.
It’s so easy to sit back, let your thoughts and feelings consume you and let something you can control, control you.
Whether you’re a Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Pollock or Bacon, dig out your water colours, wash your brushes and start creating a better version of yourself – That blank canvas is pining for some unique splashes of colour.
“Sam, I’m 43 and my ‘canvas’ is covered with colours I really don’t want, what can I do?”
What would Picasso do if he created something he didn’t like? Well, he’d probably make it work anyway and call it a masterpiece! That’s how art works, right? A painting that an artist considers a ‘failure’ might resonate deeply with viewers because they are viewing and receiving the message very differently. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and all that jazz.
Alternatively, an artist might scrap a half-finished painting and start over. After all, I’d imagine far more completed works have been sold over the years than unfinished ones.
Remember! Whether or not you’ve got paint applied to your canvas, your masterpiece is still unfinished, so complete it!
What are you going to paint?
Are you going to create the best masterpiece version of yourself?
