They’re Oblivious
Pets don’t care about your money, social media status, how many friends you have, how drunk you get on the weekend, how attractive (or not!) your partner is, how expensive the latest gadget you bought it, or anything else materialistic … you get the picture.
They are unintentionally oblivious to these things because they don’t possesses the capacity to understand these types of feelings which cause us humans so much pain, hassle, stress, anxiety, worry, depression – the list is almost endless.
Put yourself in their shoes, so-to-speak, just for a couple of minutes. What do they do all day? What we’re talking about is 99.9% cats and/or dogs, because this is what domestic pets most of us have – to the people and families which have something obscure, like an iguana, meerkat or something like a snake, the same probably applies because they still fall within the animal category.
Pets are easily please, it only takes a walk through the door and they’re wagging their tails like there’s no tomorrow – it’s so simple but that really is enough for them – the fact that you’ve returned home to give them love, is paramount.
How Do We Differ?
Most of us don’t struggle with lack of love, it’s the conditions which we inadvertently set ourselves:
“I’ll feel okay when…”
“It’ll be enough if…”
“I’ll be proud when…”
Pets don’t play that ‘game’ because they can’t, they are not built or wired that way. They don’t measure your worth – The only thing they do, and they do it brilliantly by the way, is respond to your presence, energy, and most of all, consistency. There’s no conditions with pets (unless you are giving them a treat for being good!) and that’s the way it should be with us.
It’s so different to how we treat ourselves.
We remember everything.
We judge everything.
We have standards we need to meet.
So when pets accept us, for who we are, it can feel like a huge relief – That’s why the unconditional love they give us really makes us cherish them – The love isn’t conditional on anything – Perhaps just being reciprocal and returning what is given.
Every single day.
