There’s No Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Sometimes things can get too much – too much for even the strongest of minds. I genuinely believe there’s a light at the end of everyone’s tunnel, but sometimes, this metaphorical light of survival in our minds is blocked out by a landslide of thoughts. A landslide so fierce that it becomes impenetrable to everything on the outside. No matter how much some people try, they just can’t break through – This is the saddest part.

Naturally, there are many reasons which can lead to someone’s demise, but with mental health, it’s the fact that people decide to end their own life which most of us find it extremely difficult to fathom.

What must someone be going through to feel there is no way out? It’s a question I ask myself most weeks. I’ve known of people who have not made it through and I can’t help but wonder what was going through their minds during their final moments.

Some people are trapped by their own minds – their very own thoughts. I’m confident in saying this because I used to be this person. Looking back, I believe I suffered in silence for many years – Primarily because I didn’t know I was suffering, but also due to feeling shameful and being judged. It wasn’t until 2015 that I started to open up and talk about the thoughts and feelings I was experiencing.

I’m now a very open person about mental health and other aspects of my life, and I don’t shy away from them – I’ve learnt to embrace who I am and it’s helped me with my mental struggles and battles.

Overcoming The Impossible

Sometimes I feel lucky, in fact, extremely lucky. Why have I been able to make it this far and not succumb to the dark clouds? Why me and not others? Why have they not made it? I have to give myself credit here – When I’ve been in a dangerously low mood, I’ve worked so hard to pull myself up and carry on.

Believe me when I say this, there was times in the past where I felt I was going to make it through to the other side, but thankfully, I am here, a changed person, and writing this blog to help others through this tough time in their lives.

I want to be able to tell the readers of this blog, especially the one’s who are fellow ‘mental healthers’, that’s there is a magical way to simply end feelings of low mood – But there just isn’t. I really, truly wish there was an easy solution. I’m sorry, it just isn’t that easy. Then again, life is difficult!

It’s heartbreaking to hear of people who have not made it through, because I feel I am always powerless to help. Maybe if they would have known I write this blog, it could have saved them. Okay, that’s a lot of ifs and buts, but you get the picture.

The good news, in the midst of all this sorrowful blogging, is that there are things you can do to help yourself – They are relatively simple tasks, but naturally, they are going to feel like a mountain to climb because you are battling hard in your mind. Your mind is going to want to give up but you can’t, you just can’t.

If you work hard enough, small shimmers of light will begin to break through the rocks of the landslide, and with them, hope will start to return.

Trust me.
