🌙 Late night check-in
Somewhere in the world, someone is reading this while everyone else around them is asleep.
Maybe that someone is in the UK. Maybe Europe. Maybe Australia, Canada, South Africa, Asia, or somewhere I’ve never been.
If that someone is you, I’m glad you’re here.
DONTHIDE is for the people who look okay on the outside but carry things quietly on the inside. The people who keep going even when they’re tired. The people who think “nobody would understand this.”
Every message I receive is treated with care, and anonymous stories are always welcome.
So tonight, wherever you are in the world, take a breath. You’ve made it through another day. That counts.
🌎 If you feel comfortable, send me an email with your story: sam@donthide.co.uk
Why do I need to share my story?
You don’t need to share anything, but I would like you to.
I’ve been in a similar situation before, and I know that everybody’s experience is different. We all go through different kinds of mental health struggles, but fundamentally we are the same – sometimes we can feel as though being alive on planet Earth is no longer an option we want to consider.
Sharing your story can not only help you begin to untangle your own mind and make sense of what you’re going through, but it can also become a powerful lifeline for someone else.
You may be further along in your mental health journey now. Perhaps you’re doing better, even if you still struggle from time to time or have the occasional late-night worry. For someone else, though, they may be right at the beginning. They may be frightened by their first experience of those dark thoughts and desperately trying to search for a place where they can feel safe, heard, unjudged, and above all, not alone.
That is exactly why I set up DONTHIDE – for that reason, and that reason alone.
Sometimes simply putting thoughts into words – a kind of digital pen and paper – can do wonders for the mind. Writing things down often helps us begin to untangle what we’ve been carrying quietly inside.
Your story can be anonymous, and there is never any pressure. Just one honest sentence can be enough. Don’t worry about writing pages and pages to make your story ‘perfect’, because anything you write is perfect, because it’s your story.
