The Power Of Social Media

For all of it’s faults (some which I might have mentioned in earlier posts), social media is a very powerful tool. It gives almost 3 billion people across the world the ability to connect, re-connect, share stories, photos, videos, and a whole load more. I think the cons certainly outweigh the pros, but it still has it’s merits.

I saw a quote a few days ago which I screenshotted and wanted to share with you, the conversation was revolving around some ‘Reels’ which had been made by a woman who was traveling around Europe in her campervan.

Somebody was complaining (naturally!) because even though the reel was really fun to watch – showing her trip, the van, the amazing views, the wildlife, the FREEDOM etc, the thing in question was how long it takes to make all these individual videos. The ‘complainer’ also mentioned about how time consuming creating said content really is.

Same Handcuffs, Different Prison

Everybody will read into and understand/interpret this differently, but when I saw it I had to re-read it a few times because it’s such a powerful line.

The way I read into this, is that no matter where we are in life, physically and/or mentally, we are confined to some sort of ‘prison’. Take that word with a bucket and not a pinch of salt! It’s the first word which came to my mind which is as relative as I could possibly make it.

Basically, there is always something we are tied to. It might be impossible to think of a scenario when we don’t have ties – no mortgage, children, dependants, money, health, employment etc. – but as 99.9% of have something which ‘attaches’ to us, we will remain in this so called prison of 4 walls.

This ties in quite nicely with an earlier post – What’s Your Purpose – This one explores almost living in the moment and realising we can really do most things we set our sights on, and that there is no 4-walled restriction.

When the mind is ‘trapped’, i.e. working in the same job, the same office, the same town, the same industry, for let’s say 30 years, it must feel like there is just nothing else out there which is exciting enough to even consider exploring, almost like we are living in that moment (30 years of them!) and wearing blinkers.

Our horse-like eyewear severely restricts our peripheral vision and we are restricted from the beauty of the outside world.

It’s not only a physical prison, remember, it’s a mental one as well. We’ve already discovered in earlier posts about how powerful our minds are, no matter how much our body wants to do something, if our minds say no, it’s usually a resounding no. It’s only when we ‘push back’ and really tell it that it’s not what we want, does it listen and let us do what we want to.
